Finding lice can be difficult because many people have never seen them up close. The picture included in this post allows you to view the various stages of the lice life cycle. Use that photo, or watch this video from a fellow clinic owner in Los Angeles, to see live lice moving in hair.
Our words of wisdom to any parent: If your child keeps scratching their head, or if you feel an itchy spot on your scalp that seems to be traveling, immediately check for head lice! These little nuisances can creep their way into your hair or onto your child’s head undetected. They will remain unnoticed, and will wreak havoc for weeks before you begin to develop the itch response to their bites. Some people actually never get that allergic itch response to head lice!
Checking your own head for head lice can be a little difficult. You may want to enlist a family member to do the screening work. Find someone with good eyes, and make sure there is plenty of light, as the nits are very small, and the adult lice hide when the hair is moved or disturbed. You can also call our clinic and we can perform a head screening for you.
When checking for head lice you may see one of three things. Seeing any of the three will confirm you have a head lice case. You can look for nits, nymphs or the adult louse.
If the whole idea of seeing bugs in your hair or your child’s hair makes you squeamish, please let us do the work for you. We can check your hair for head lice, provide head lice removal options, and help you to develop a head lice treatment plan. We have both do-it-yourself options, or you can sit back, relax and have us remove it for you. Our company Certified AirAllé technicians use the AirAllé Device to dehydrate all of the nits that are stuck in your hair. We follow that treatment up with a few more steps, and you are out of the clinic, lice free, in around 60 minutes or so.
